The Slow Holler deck is funded!!

I was SO HAPPY a few hours ago when I got an email from Kickstarter saying that the Slow Holler Tarot Deck has met its funding goal! I’ve been watching the campaign for a month now with varying degrees of pessimism. Since I’ve never backed a Kickstarter campaign before, I didn’t realize that the “last-minute dogpile” effect, which also happens in online auctions, can happen with fundraising campaigns, too. That is–a few people pledge money in the beginning, but many more people are watching to see if the campaign will actually be funded, and those people pledge their money all at the last minute. It was AMAZING to see this deck go from about $15,000 short this morning to $2,000 over their funding goal by the time the campaign ended at 7pm.

I am excited to see a deck with racial diversity, gender & non-binary diversity, gender expression diversity, sexual diversity, and body-type diversity, as well as artistic diversity. Particularly because I despair of ever being able to get my hands on a copy of the Collective Tarot, the Slow Holler deck is a boon. While I’m mostly OK with traditional gender presentation in the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, my short-haired-tomboyish self and my queer side get short shrift in tarot meditations much of the time, and, well, in much of my daily life, too. I’ve got a long wait–the deck is due out in November of 2016, but I think it will be worth it.
